Hey, I'mRhyzome Adkisson.
I got tired of watching good artists freeze in front of the form. Now I write grant applications that get funded, build sites that ship fast, and design small systems that hold up in public. I do everything else so you can do the art.
working musician. Music, data, and artist infrastructure. Bilingual English / Spanish. Based in Toronto, from Chile.
Funded by EduCanada, Canada Council for the Arts, Halifax Public Libraries, Fondo Nacional de Desarrollo Cultural y las Artes, and Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y el Patrimonio. I write the application so you can make the work, or build the site, the system, the thing that needs to exist.
Grant applications, websites, music and sound, and strange briefs.
Grant applications
For artists who freeze at the project narrative, or who have been told the work is "too experimental" or "doesn't fit the criteria." EduCanada, Canada Council for the Arts, MINCAP Chile, Fondart, and more. I write the application so you can make the work.
Websites
For artists and orgs who need a site that works. Portfolio, landing page, or small system. Static, fast, no WordPress unless there is an actual reason.
Music and sound
For artists who need a voice that fits the track, not one that shows off. Session vocals, composition, rough mixes, and sound for film, installation, or live work.
Strange briefs
The projects with no obvious category. Residencies, curatorial files, label work, sound-art proposals. If you can describe it, I can help make it fundable — or at least make it exist.
I paid for university teaching math, chemistry, and physics to high school kids in Concepción, Chile. While doing that I finished a degree in industrial engineering at Universidad de Concepción, and sang in the symphonic choir. Carmina Burana, La Traviata, Magic Flute. The engineering is where I learned to look at a messy system and find the bottleneck. The choir is where I learned to shut up and listen.
While still in university I co-founded a music-tech startup called OndaSonora. Crowdfunding platform for Chilean artists, built on grants I wrote myself. EduCanada, MINCAP, Fondart. I pitched it at KTH Stockholm during MusicFest and secured $40,000 USD in seed funding from the Chilean Ministry of Economy. I learned that most artists know exactly what they are doing. They just do not know how to say it in the language a committee needs to hear. That gap is where I work.
After OndaSonora I kept writing grants for other people. Friends running DIY spaces. Collectives. Non-profits. I co-founded CAFCA, an arts education NGO that delivered government-funded programming in schools and communities across Concepción. Later I received the ELAP scholarship from Global Affairs Canada and spent a year at Dalhousie University researching supply chains and studying DIY organizational models. My undergrad thesis was on communication practices in self-managed cultural spaces. Three continents of fieldwork.
I moved to Halifax and helped run RadStorm, a community arts collective. Studio equipment, workshops, grant applications. We secured over $10,000 for venue acquisition. Then Toronto to study jazz at Humber. Voice, guitar, sax. Spanish and English. German from the south of Chile, French from a year in Quebec, some Norwegian and Swedish from family. I am still writing grants. Still building websites. Still singing. If you need someone who does the everything else so you can do the art, let us talk.
